Boise State University Splits Ties With City Over Proposed Stadium

Oct 26, 2017

Boise State University is no longer interested in sharing a proposed sports stadium downtown with the city.

The university had been in talks with the city of Boise about sharing any future stadium since 2015.

But now, Boise State officials say they plan to build their own baseball stadium on – or near – campus.

In a statement, President Bob Kustra says the long-term lease that would’ve come with a shared stadium didn’t make financial sense.

Boise Mayor Dave Bieter says he is disappointed, but that the project is still viable even without the university as a partner.

The proposed stadium would be built along Americana and Shoreline Drive, but has garnered opposition from residents during recent open house meetings.

The Boise Hawks minor league baseball team would be the main tenant. The Hawks currently play at Memorial Stadium in Garden City, which team officials say is too outdated.
