Eagle City Council Race Unchanged After Recount

Dec 7, 2017

No changes are coming to Eagle City Council after county officials conducted a recount Thursday morning.

Jill Mitchell requested the recount last week after she lost her chance at one of two open seats on Eagle City Council by five votes in the November general election.

With the margin so close, Mitchell was eligible for a free recount under Idaho law. Ada County picked up the tab.

County elections officials tallied the roughly 4,800 ballots and counted a random sample by hand, but the results came out exactly the same.

The results are unofficial until certified by the attorney general’s office, which is expected soon.

Miranda Gold and Kenny Pittman will take their spots on the council early next year as the top two vote getters in the four-way race.

Deputy Ada County Clerk Phil McGrane says he’s proud of his staff who he says ensured an accurate result.
