Grizzly Gets Too Close To Idaho Campers, Gets A New Home

Jul 12, 2018

This bear is taking a nap, courtesy of Idaho Fish and Game. The young male grizzly was trapped near the Mill Creek Campground in Island Park Wednesday.

Fish and Game got several calls from people who spotted the bear in the campground and a nearby subdivision. Officials said the animal had lost some of its natural fear of humans.

The bear was trapped and then sedated, as shown here, taking a snooze. He was tagged and given a GPS collar. He then got a ride to a new home in a remote area of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest near Snow Creek Butte.

Fish and Game will keep an eye on the bear, via GPS. Officials hope the capture and transfer will deter the bear from hanging around people.
