Idaho Speaker Of The House Appoints New Member To Idaho Hispanic Commission

Mar 1, 2017

Idaho House Speaker Scott Bedke has appointed Republican Rep. Clark Kauffman of Filer to serve on the Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs. His appointment replaces Rep. Greg Chaney, R-Caldwell, from the board. Chaeny has served on it since 2015.

The commission is a non-partisan state agency that works on economic and social equality issues. Representative Chaney is sponsoring legislation that would ban what are known as sanctuary cities in Idaho – cities that limit cooperation with federal immigration officials. The bill has received scrutiny from activists who say racial profiling could become an issue under the proposal.

But Speaker Bedke says the lawmaker’s legislation is not connected to the decision to replace him on the commission.
