This interview was originally broadcast in December, 2013:
A continuation of a conversation with Daniel James Brown, author of The New York Times bestseller, The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
The book, now out in paperback, recounts the amazing true story of a group of young Americans who, against all the odds, won a gold medal in the signature rowing event at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.
The Americans were from the University of Washington in Seattle. Competing against the favored teams from Germany and Italy, they pulled off a stunning upset in front of high-ranking Nazi officials, including Adolph Hitler.
Daniel James Brown will be speaking in Boise on November 17th as part of The Cabin's Readings and Conversations Series. You can find out more about the event, including how to purchase tickets, at the Cabin’s website at thecabinidaho.org.
