Even if the weather doesn’t feel particularly springy, AAA Idaho says you only have to look at gas station signs to know what time of year it is. Prices at Gem State pumps rose by 16 cents per gallon in the last week – putting it on the list of 10 most expensive states for fuel.

As people make plans for New Year’s Eve, AAA wants drivers to be mindful as they head to their celebrations. The holiday is a big night for parties that can sometimes go too far.

If you’re getting in the car and traveling this weekend, you won’t be alone. AAA Idaho expects 176,000 Idahoans will be driving somewhere over Memorial Day.

Add in other forms of travel, and AAA expects 200,000 Idahoans to travel at least 50 miles over the holiday.

The price at the pump is the lowest it has been in Idaho on this date since 2009. That's despite the cost of gas going up for more than a month.

Gas prices have risen for 36 of the past 41 days, says AAA Idaho. Despite that, Idaho's average price for a gallon of gas is just $2.07. It hasn't been that low on April 5 since 2009, when it hit $1.97 a gallon. In 2012, we were paying $3.78 for gas in early April.

Grumbling about price is a perennial gas pump activity, but right now Idahoans really do have something to complain about. Idaho’s average gas price is at $3.62 per gallon. That’s 27 cents higher than the national average. Idaho's prices are also higher than they were this time last year, while most of the country has gone the opposite direction. Why the difference?

If you’ve noticed Idaho’s gas prices edging up in the past week, you’re not alone. After hitting a low of $2.94 earlier this month, AAA Idaho reports the average price per gallon is now $3.06. But even though the rise in prices may not be welcome, it's not surprising.
