Permits to cut down Christmas trees in Idaho forests went on sale this weekend.

A conservation group and the Nez Perce Tribe have filed a lawsuit against three federal agencies seeking to stop a central Idaho gold mine exploration project by a Canadian company.

The tribe and the Idaho Conservation League filed the lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Idaho against the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service.

A new fire is burning southwest of Midvale.  The Roadside Fire started this morning within the Payette National Forest protection zone.

Highway 95 is down to one lane near the fire.  Six hundred acres have burned so far.  The Midvale Fire Department, eight engines, ten smokejumpers, and multiple air resources are fighting the fire.  Officials have called for more resources.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but fire investigators are on the scene.

Three conservation groups want to stop domestic sheep from grazing on certain areas within the Payette National Forest.  They fear Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep will catch diseases transmitted by their domestic cousins.  These groups filed a motion in federal court this week to force the U.S Forest Service to further restrict sheep grazing.
